How to moderate your YouTube account

Pin It Now!
Dose of Digital recently had an excellent article about how Pharma should be using YouTube. Many companies, Pharma included, are fearful of what kind of comments they will receive via their social media efforts. However, with YouTube, there are two very important factors to note. The percentage rate of individuals who comment on videos is less that 1% in most cases. YouTube also allows the video owners to moderate their comments, so any negative feedback video owners receive don't have to appear on the site. Read the full article from Dose of Digital here.

Does your company use YouTube? How do you control individuals commenting on your videos?

While they will not see sales reps, there are multiple other ways to reach them, all allowing for the same voice and information to be passed concerning the drug you are letting the doctor know about. According to the article: By combining faxes, direct mail, e-communications and teledetailing along with your sales force call plan, promotional dinner meetings and conference exhibits you can greatly extend your reach and frequency. Can mobile health lead to Medicaid savings?

Pin It Now!
Heath Care at MSNBC recently looked at the work Dr. Richard Katz is doing in Washington, DC, to work with inner city individuals to monitor their diabetes daily. By using cell phones as medical devices, they are hoping to take daily readings of blood sugar and send reports back to the doctors. Then, if numbers are incorrect, the doctors can communicate with the patients as to what they need to do to get their blood sugar back to normal. Then upon normal doctors visits, all of the information is recorded at NoMoreClipboard.com. Thus, encouraging individuals to consistently monitor their health on a daily basis before conditions worsen. Read the full article here. As this experiment is focused in inner-city Washington, DC, the daily healthcare will contribute to Medicare saving.

What do you think of this? Could you see this kind of care spread to other populations in similar situations? Could using apps with patient population encourage our society to wellness?

Some doctors connecting to local community through Facebook

Pin It Now!
Last week in USA Today, Rita Rubin looked at how some doctors are using social media to connect with their patients. An OB/GYN in Texas has replaced their babies wall in the office with a Facebook Fan Page, where pictures of the babies are now displayed. These fanpages have also become places where people come to ask their questions and look for information. While many doctors choose to remain anonymous, others have found it as a way to connect with their patients. Rubin relates this to how doctors used to make house calls and join the community of the towns they served. Read the full article here.

What do you think? Should doctors be connecting with their patients via Facebook? What privacy risks can Facebook Pages bring?

Market for handheld healthcare devices is growing

Pin It Now!
The market for hand held healthcare devices could reach $8.8 billion by the end of 2010 according to Mobi Health News. Much of this is credited to the healthcare stimulus package, but also the $5.3 billion that was spent on healthcare that was spent on healthcare monitoring tools.

According to a report recently issued by Kalorama:

Patient monitoring devices account for the largest share of sales in the handheld market, largely due to the range of products available, the number of conditions requiring monitoring, and increasing demand for essential monitoring products in portable sizes, such as ultrasound and ECG. Administrative devices have exploded over the last five years with the growing use of PDAs, smartphones, and tablet PCs taking hold in the healthcare industry.

Sanofi Pasteur to raise awareness of whopping caugh

Pin It Now!
According to Medical Media & Marketing, Jeff Gordon is teaming up with sanofi-Pasteur to promote awareness of whopping cough. Television and radio ads will begin running in August, in combination with print, online and patient materials that will also be distributed.

A digital effort will take place as well:
Other campaign elements include a website (SoundsofPertussis.com) and Facebook page. By texting “SOUNDS” to 292929 on a mobile phone, participants will receive a text message five days later reminding them to get vaccinated. From the campaign website, visitors can check out Jeff Gordon's “favorite road tunes,” and download the songs from iTunes for $0.99 to $1.29 each. For every song downloaded (selections run the musical gamut, from U2, Sheryl Crow and Rascal Flatts, to Rihanna, Ke$ha, and Disney movie scores), 5% of the proceeds will go to the March of Dimes for pertussis education, according to the statement.

Additionally, Sanofi Pasteur is donating $0.10 for each of the first 50,000 new people who “like” the Sounds of Pertussis page on Facebook. At press time, nearly 14,000 people “liked” the page.
