Technology is impossible to avoid these days, with access to websites for everything from healthcare to online grocery shopping, people don’t even need to leave their house anymore. However, there is a large portion of the American population that has yet to discover the convenience of shopping, booking appointments, and staying connected with family and friends online. It is likely that this same demographic is also missing out on the advantages the internet has to offer, especially the healthcare opportunities.
“Seniors need to get on the technological bandwagon andbecome an integral part of their own health care and health care delivery,”said Sara J. Czaja, scientific director of the Center on Aging at theUniversity of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. “Many older adults don’t seethe relevance of having access to the Internet, but more and more medicalservices are becoming available online.” Many libraries, Y.M.C.A.’s and adult living facilities are now offering tutorials on how to use computers, so if you were hesitant before because you didn't know how, you shouldn't be discouraged.
There are a variety of ways people can use the internet to help improve and maintain their health. Health forums, ordering medication online, and communicating with healthcare providers, are all simple ways that will help save both time and effort. What do you find the most useful about e-health?
