ePharma Interview Series Probes Key Digital Issues

Pin It Now!

There are so many options when it comes to digital media that when creating the best strategy for your brand, it can sometimes be overwhelming. What is the best way to leverage your technologies capabilities? And where do you get started?

ePharma Summit is pleased to announce the debut of "Inside ePharma"--a special interview series featuring experts and leaders at the forefront of the digital media and marketing frontier in the pharmaceutical industry.

Episode one features James Chase, Editor-in-Chief of Medical Marketing and Media on the most pressing issues faced by digital marketers.

 Interview highlights:

“The idea is to implement a single digital strategy across a single platform and a specific set of protocols for developing digital programs so that once a certain type of project has been approved, other similar projects can follow quickly building on that framework of knowledge and experiences.”

“…HCPs, patients, payers, shareholders, regulators…they are all people. Therefore, they all have some idea of what should be possible with digital.”

“…figuring out digital is not easy. It’s resource-sapping, it demands room for failure, it requires champions and it takes patience and courage and perseverance.”

Instascam?

Pin It Now!

This week, Instagram users may have noticed a 'Privacy Policy & Terms of Service' notice when you went to refresh your newest likes. If you were like me, you just simply acknowledged it was there, realized you didn't actually have to check any sort of box to update anything, and moved on. But for those of you that did read it, or at least the media uproaring it caused, I can assume you were not happy. Tweets, facebook status', blog posts, all stating that as of January 16th, Instagram would now have the right to sell your photos without your consent. So how do you proceed?

Many people, like National Geographic went as far as to suspend their account immediately. Last April, Facebook purchased the photo sharing site for one billion dollars. Yesterday they replied, assuring you that your photos would not in fact be sold without compensation or your consent. But now that the idea has been put out there, will they actually lose users? Have the semantics of their terms of service agreement created new opportunities for other apps?

If you're an Instagram user, will you continue to use it?

Knowing your limits

Pin It Now!

Every Friday we feature an 'Out of Industry' post. Something that is relevant to media, but not necessarily related to pharma. Today we discuss 'social limitations'. Social media helps you express, connect, and discover new ideas from all over the world, but because there are so many ways to share your idea, it's important to make sure you don't blend in with the crowd. Applications like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram allow you to upload pictures, posts, and tweets as many times a day as you want. But does this hurt or help you in the long run? Too much of the same thing can get lost in the digital world, so what is the best way to monitor your interaction with your audience?

This week apple launched a new app, PicIT24. It's allows users to post pictures and messages, much like twitter and instagram, but this application only allows one post per day. PicIT24 also lets users sort friends by group to further cut through the noise, but functions as its own social network replete with photo filters of its own. While that may not stop your over-tweeting or all-too-frequent Insta-posts, it can still teach an important lesson amid the increasing ubiquitousness of social media: sometimes less still is more

Could the key to engaging your audience be limiting your content? Will applications with such limitations be the next social media trend?

Internally, are you seeing a shift from return on investment (ROI) to return on impressions (ROI)? Do you expect it to change in the future?

Pin It Now!
It's no surprise that mobile devices are one of the most innovative types of technology we have out there today. Not only are they able to compute information faster, but because of their size, also in a much more convenient way. With so many applications, options, competitors, it's hard to choose which best suits your individual needs, especially when it comes to healthcare. So how do you promote this type of technology? What makes consumers and patients want to be a part of this world, or more importantly, your brand? At the 12th annual ePharma Summit, we'll discuss how to increase build, engage, and retain your audience via mobile technology and more.

Session: Using Mobile to Build Relevance and Engagement with Consumers and Patients

Speaker: Todd Kolm, Director, Emerging Channel Strategy, Pfizer

According to a 2012 article on Forbes.com, “If you’re tracking monetary return on investment (ROI) as the sole criterion to determine if your marketing programs are working, then you need to catch up to the 21st century because you’re missing a big part of the picture.” In order evaluate the effectiveness of a marketing campaign (especially within social media), the return on impressions demonstrates the big picture. The value of positive buzz online is hard to measure and track but can lead to increased sales and revenue.

What’s so bad about bad data? Besides operational inefficiency and ineffectiveness, there are true cost ramifications associated with poor data quality in an organization’s data warehouse. If you don’t already have a data governance strategy you may want to consider the stats in the following Infographic created by Justin Hipps.

Session Spotlight: How can you use gamifcation to increase medication adherence among children?

Pin It Now!
Although the Pharma industry has been primarily behind the curve when it comes to social or mobile technology, mHealth is proving to be beneficial for both the industry and the consumers. mHealth has created more interesting, accessible applications to help educate, engage, and advance consumers ideas and thoughts towards healthcare. So how will the next generation of consumers evolve with such applications?

Session Spotlight: Next Generation mHealth Technologies to Drive Convergence and Improved Health Outcomes

Moderator: Joe Shields, Global Strategic Marketing, Lifescan

Panelists: Susan Kavett, Senior Manager, Digital Marketing, Multi-Channel Marketing, Commercial Strategy & Planning, Sanofi US
Pete Mehr, PhD, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthcare, Merkle, Inc.
Sharon DeBacco, Senior Director, Customer Communications & Operations, Ironwood Pharmaceuticals Scott Wolf, Executive Vice President, Sales, Everyday Health

About the Session: According to recent statistics, 75% of adults taking medication are non-adherent in one or more ways and the economic impact of non-adherence is estimated to cost $100 billion annually (PhRMA, 2011). Adherence among children is even lower since they are dependent on an adult remembering to administer the medication. One way to potentially increase adherence for children is through gamification, so they are incentivized to seek out medication from their caregivers. With games for children on iPads and cell phones becoming more ubiquitous, gamification via mhealth technologies promises to be even more efficient for increasing adherence for children.
